Leon J. Radomile

Radomile FamilyItalian-American Author

Leon J. Radomile, renowned among Italian-American authors, has had a life-long love of history. Born in Philadelphia in 1949 of Italian parents, he moved with his family to San Francisco at the age of nine. In 1972 he graduated from the University of San Francisco with a degree in history. In 1999, as a businessman and entrepreneur, he began writing and publishing his own Italian culture books beginning with the best-selling bilingual Heritage Italian-American Style.
He followed that success with Heritage Hispanic-American Style in 2003. Becoming involved in genealogical research began as a recurring daydream of his Italian ancestors and grew into this fictional Renaissance adventure based on the Battle of Lepanto in 1571. Happily married to Lanette since 1975, he has two daughters, Lea Linda and Alexandra Marie, and is looking forward to spinning tales for his grandchildren.

RADOMILE LINEAGE

Radolowick Radomile LineageThe family name "Radomile" is an ancient transformation of the illustrious and noble name of Radolowick, which originated in Bosnia and was established in the 16th century in the region of Apulia, Italy. The family name of Radolowick gathered honors and wealth under the feudal system in the city of Polignano, in the vicinity of Bari under the title of Marchese.

The family influence was also felt in the city of Naples during the 18th century. The Cardinal Nicola Radolowick was given the diocese of Chieti (circa 1675) in the region of Abruzzo and died there in 1702. The family had another dignitary of the Catholic Church by the name of Don Francesco who presided in the city of Polignano under the title of Marchese.

After a period of time, the family name was formalized to Radomile in the city of Chieti in the region of Abruzzo. Many in this family resided in the town of Villalfonsina, overlooking the port city of Vasto, on the Abruzzo coast. In 1910, the newly married Attilio Radomile and his bride, Lucia Ciampoli of Ortona, came to America and settled in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
